Disable the Windows XP Guest account correctly

December 15, 07 by Crossover

user-guest

The Windows XP guest account is not only used to allow guests to login to Windows XP but also to authenticate the computer in peer to peer networks. Disabling the XP guest account is therefor only advised if you do not use file sharing, printer sharing or Internet connection sharing. Please note that file sharing refers to the build in Windows XP functionality and not applications like Bittorrent or Emule.

Disabling the account in the User Accounts menu of the Control Panel does not disable it but simply removes the icon from the login screen. Users who connect to the computer in Peer to Peer networks still authenticate as guests.

To fully disable the Windows XP guest account you need to use the following command in the command line. Open the command line by pressing Windows R, entering cmd and return afterwards.

10 Tips to Write Your Most Popular Post Ever

December 07, 07 by Crossover

success

One popular post can bring your more traffic and links than a month’s worth of your usual content.

In this post, I want to set you a challenge with the potential to launch your blog into the stratosphere.

Make the next post you write your most popular post ever.

The following ten tips form my key advice for tackling this task. I used all of them when hitting the Digg front page for the first time. There’s no blueprint you can follow to write an incredibly popular post, but you won’t have a chance unless you try. I’m confident these tips will give you a good shot at success.

1. Time is more important than talent. Work on something for eight hours and you can bet it will be good. You don’t need to spend that long, however (though that’s how long it took me to craft the first post I wrote that hit the Digg front page). More time means you can refine, format and fill your post with plenty of value. Take the time to really craft your content. It will show in the finished product.

2. Use your best idea. A post will never become wildly popular unless it fulfills a need, and does so emphatically. What’s something your niche wants but hasn’t got yet? Can you assemble a whole lot of really awesome (targeted) resources in one place? The more your posts helps people, the better it will do.

3. Use formatting to your advantage. These days, social media is key when it comes to launching your posts into the stratosphere. Social media users are notoriously spoiled for choice, however. Use formatting to emphasize the best aspects of your post. Hone in on your funniest lines, your most profound bits of advice, your best resources. Make them stand out.

4. Brainstorm headlines. There are probably one or two bloggers who’ve completely mastered the art of writing headlines for social media (you’ll know who they are). The rest of us haven’t been blessed with such skills. When you see a great headline, chances are it’s option #12 of a dozen choices. Few of us can think of a great headline straight away. Spend ten minutes brainstorming and you’re bound to stumble across something that works. A weak headline will cripple your post’s chances of success. It’s essential that you put a lot of work into getting it right.

The Best Free Computer System Recovery Tools

September 22, 07 by ReniX

If you had lost some very important data, or if you see that your computer is simply dying, the following recovery tools will be indispensable for you. You’d better burn yourself several of these useful tools before the disastrous thing happens.

SuperDuper is a program that makes recovery painless, because it makes creating a fully bootable backup painless. Its incredibly clear, friendly interface is understandable, easy to use, and SuperDuper’s built-in scheduler makes it trivial to back up automatically. And it runs beautifully on both Intel and Power PC Macs. It is an indispensable tool, specially if your hard drive starts making that horrible clicking noise, your most important day-to-day application isn’t working with the system update you just applied, or you need to restore a stable copy of your system, but don’t want to lose what you’ve been working on, or other similar cases.

Find your Windows product key

September 21, 07 by ReniX

key

Lost the product key that comes with your Windows installation disk? Not to worry — it is lurking deep inside Windows.

From your Start Menu, choose Run, then type REGEDIT in the box and
click OK.

For Windows 95, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and look for an entry in the right pane called “ProductId”

In Windows 98 and ME, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and look for an entry called “ProductKey”

In Windows 2000 and XP, there are in fact two entries, both called
“ProductKey”, one under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and another in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WinNT\CurrentVersion.

Remove Yourself From Spammer’s Mailing Lists

September 14, 07 by ReniX

There are lots of programs available to fight spam. Most of these programs don’t actually stop the delivery of spam, but rather delete it or block it from infiltrating your inbox. This can be effective but it doesn’t actually get to the root of the problem. To be truly effective you need to be removed from the spammers list all together and I would like to show you how you can use a free program to do this.

Google Adsense Tips, Tricks, and Secrets

July 09, 07 by ReniX

Build an Empire?

When you’re deciding to become a website publisher you will fall into one of two broad categories:

  • * Publish 100 websites that each earn $1 a day profit
    * Publish 1 website that earns $100 a day profit
  • The reality of it is, most people end up somewhere in between. Having 100 websites leaves you with maintenance, management and content issues. Having one website leaves you open to all sort of fluctuations (search engines algorithm’s, market trends, etc). You can adapt your plan on the way, but you’ll have an easier time if you start out going in the direction of where you want to end up.
    General or Niche

You can build your website around general topics or niche ones. Generally speaking niche websites work better with adsense. First off the ad targeting is much better. Secondly as you have a narrow focus your writing naturally becomes more expert in nature. Hopefully this makes you more authority in your field.

If this is your first try at building an adsense website, make it about something you enjoy. It will make the process much easier and less painful to accomplish. You should however make sure that your topic has enough of an ad inventory and the payout is at a level you are comfortable with. You may love medieval folk dancing, but the pool of advertisers for that subject is very small (in fact it’s currently zero).

Once you’ve gotten the hang of how Adsense works on a website, you are going to want to dabble in some high paying keywords, you may even be tempted to buy a high paying keyword list. This does come with some dangers. First off the level of fraud is much higher on the big money terms. Secondly there is a distortion of the supply and demand relationship for these terms. Everyone wants ads on their website that make $35 or more a click, however the number of advertisers who are willing to pay that much is pretty limited. Additionally the competition for that traffic is going to be stiff. So, don’t try to run with the big dogs if you can’t keep up. If you have to ask if you’re a big dog, then chances are, you’re not. I have used a high dollar keywords report from cashkeywords.com and was pleased with my results (see cash keywords free offer recap).
