Use virtual machines to run operating systems such as MS-DOS, Windows, and OS/2. You can run multiple operating systems at once on a single physical computer and switch between them as easily as switching applications—instantly, with a mouse click.

Microsoft Helps Police Crack Your Computer

May 02, 08 by Crossover

Windows Vista Main Login

“Microsoft has developed a small plug-in device that investigators can use to quickly extract forensic data from computers that “may have been used in crimes.” It basically bypasses all of the Windows security (decrypting passwords, etc.) in order to eliminate all that pesky privacy when the police have physical access to your computer. Just one more reason not to run Windows on your computer.”

Search Products Using Microsoft Live Product Search

April 23, 08 by Crossover

livesearch_readerszone

Microsoft recently added Product search feature in their Live search. Live Product search is e-commerce oriented product search. Live product search is result of one year hard work and dedication from Microsoft Live Product Search Team [Congratulation].At the beginning of 2007, Google rebranded Froogle as Google Product Search and, in this context, Live Search Products, because of both the label and the area of focus, is yet another front where Microsoft goes against the Mountain View search giant.

According to Microsoft, the new version of Live Search Products delivers an improvement in the quantity of images of no less than 9.4%. This means that while the old variant of top results offered 79.2% images, the new iteration goes up all the way to 88.6% top results complete with images

“This update, in addition to continued improvements in our selection from both crawl and the Product Upload Beta, is one example of how we are improving Product Search relevance. This begs the question: how do you measure relevance?” Aziz and Bao asked.

Microsoft revealed that a number of factors are taken into consideration when it comes down to judging the relevance of the results returned to a product search. First off there has to be an inherent connection between the query and the product displayed, one that is immediately visible to the end users, but less obvious to the search engine due to the keywords associated with certain images. The Redmond company added that it is also looking to check whether the results contain images, as these items are preferred by end users, and if the products point to a reputable seller, rather than obscure and untrustworthy e-commerce websites.

But wait, you’re saying, didn’t my momma tell me there’s no such thing as a free lunch? Well, your mom was apparently one smart cookie. Because while Microsoft is offering up these applications free of charge, the company would like something in return: the ability to look over your shoulder for a few months.

Microsoft Plans Flickr Competitor

November 14, 07 by Crossover

An anonymous reader writes

"Judging by newly posted job calls, Microsoft is now working on a Flickr-like online photo service. ZDNet reports: ‘"This feature team is building a next-generation photo and video sharing service that will compete with Flickr, SmugMug and other photo web solutions today. This is a ‘v1′ opportunity," the ad said. And video will be a part of the effort, too: "This role will work across the new Windows Live division with teams like Spaces, SkyDrive, Messenger and Hotmail to construct a winning strategy for Microsoft in photo and video sharing." Evidently, Microsoft sees the effort as an online extension of its current desktop technology.’ Gundeep Hora, at CoolTechZone, feels that such a service is unlikely to succeed, and lays out the numerous challenges the company will face upon entering the market."
